Support can be delivered in many ways and can be accessed both in the good and bad times.
Our team know that they work for a caring and sympathetic employer who understands that the team have lives outside of work and that these don’t always run smoothly.
Just knowing they have someone that will listen and do their best to help is of huge value to those that need this support.
Kerri Fowdon, Practice Director goes into more details in the video below.
"We invest in our team"
Your access to blue sky opportunity
Everyone has blue sky opportunity if they want it and the support to achieve it. We are of a size where we are big enough to have exciting, interesting and varied work, yet small enough where everyone has an opportunity to experience it. It is in our DNA to make a difference to our team members. We realise it is not about one thing and everyone is different, appreciate and value different things and learn in different ways.
In the video below, Mark Whittaker, Director will share with you what blue sky opportunity is and what it means for you.
“Our aim is to help our clients and ourselves achieve more than we both ever thought possible and to have fun doing it!”
Our culture and DNA focuses on making an IMPACT to you
It is crucial that we look forward to going to work and enjoy the work that we do. If we don’t, then it will be impossible to do it well.
As a firm you will see the values and passion that we have to make a difference to our clients, but that same desire and set of values apply to our team as well.
We have created a culture and DNA that is engrained in all of our team to create an environment where our team can thrive. Whether you have the goal of developing and forging a rewarding career or just excelling and enjoying the role you do, we want you to achieve this as much as you do.
Ultimately what makes a firm is its culture or DNA and ours is focused to have an IMPACT for you.

What it's like to work at Mark Holt & Co from the Team
“The culture and work environment at Mark Holt & Co. is inviting in which no question is an issue. This is especially useful from an apprentice’s point of view in the early stages of their career. Support is always available and it’s useful to have people at similar levels in their career.”
Matthew Whear, Accounts and Audit Assistant
“I was warmly welcomed into the office community and felt at home immediately. Whilst learning the basics of my role and working towards my first exam it has helped massively having a team around me which are very supportive and work with such a positive mind set. I feel like this has helped me advance quicker within my role and made my time here vastly more enjoyable and my studies as stress free as possible. The office has a great social atmosphere which makes every day a pleasant experience.”
Lloyd Hancock
“I like working at Mark Holt & Co for 2 main reasons.
- The people!
- The variety of work – in the tax world you often get stuck working in one specific area of tax, but at MH&Co you get the opportunity to work in all areas of tax. This is unusual but so important to not only support studying, but also to keep the job interesting!”

Here are the experiences our current Apprentices are having here at Mark Holt & Co
“My apprenticeship is progressing exceptionally well; I am on the verge of completing my ATT qualification. I attribute my success to a well-crafted plan and structured approach that enabled me to finish quickly. In contrast to my previous job at a firm without an apprenticeship program, where I lacked support and guidance, I now find myself in an environment that offers ample assistance and understanding. I highly recommend pursuing an apprenticeship at Mark Holt & Co, as I believe my success here wouldn’t have been possible elsewhere.
This year, I’ve had the fortunate opportunity to lead the personal tax process and contribute to overseeing the compliance work plan under the guidance of our department lead. Such responsibilities, uncommon for an assistant, have played a crucial role in my development and provided invaluable experiences not typically found in other firms. This involvement has significantly complemented my studies, fostering collaboration with other departments and offering assistance with their inquiries.
To those contemplating an apprenticeship, I would advise acknowledging the additional workload that comes with it. However, this simultaneously cultivates strong time management skills and a profound understanding of the tasks at hand through completion of development tasks. The presence of an additional support network adds to the overall positive experience.”
Chloe Grantham – Tax Assistant – Apprentice
“I’m an accounts and audit assistant at Mark Holt & Co, responsible for tasks like preparing draft accounts, handling statutory duties, and setting up clients on software. During audits, I travel across England for two weeks, conducting tests and reviews.
Mark Holt & Co is a great workplace with a friendly atmosphere and supportive colleagues. I enjoy the audit work, building relationships with clients and seeing the impact of my contributions.
I’m new to the apprenticeship program, currently studying for my first exam in Tax Compliance. I recommend the apprenticeship for its earning potential while studying, ample support, and cost-effectiveness for both the employee and employer.”
Henry Trudgill – Accounts and Audit Assistant – Apprentice
“My role at Mark Holt & Co is that of an audit and accounts senior. I prepare accounts and corporation tax returns for Limited Companies and Partnerships as well as undertaking other statutory tasks and communicating with clients. The work environment is great, everyone is really friendly and supports one another to help the team succeed. I started my apprenticeship in November 2023 and have passed my first ACA exam.
I would recommend Mark Holt & Co as a place for other to achieve their apprenticeship as I believe it is a great place to work and I believe that colleagues go above and beyond to support you on your apprenticeship journey.”
Danielle Copley – Accounts and Audit Senior – Apprentice
“I am an accounts and audit assistant. My role Is very varied and not only do I assist in the preparation of annual accounts, but I often have the opportunity to visit clients to complete statutory audits and support in other areas of work including management accounts and VAT returns. I appreciate having a variety of roles meaning my days are different and I face plenty of challenges and new opportunities to learn. This has really built my confidence and I feel has also had a positive impact on my progress through my apprenticeship. In terms of study, I have recently completed my certificate level exams and look forward to progressing in professional level. I joined the Mark Holt & Co team over a year and a half ago from an entirely different industry and I have really enjoyed my time working here. The team are extremely welcoming and supportive and this made my transition into a new career easier! I would highly recommend joining the team if you are looking into a career in accounting.”
